This page explains which cookies and similar technologies aurenote uses and for what purpose.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help recognise you on repeat visits, keep your session active or remember your preferences.
Which cookies we use
Technically necessary cookies
These are required for operation and cannot be refused without the application no longer functioning.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
__Secure-aurenote.session_token | Authentication of your session | 30 days; without 'Keep me signed in' until you close the browser |
__Secure-aurenote.session_data | Short-lived copy of your session, so that not every page view has to query the database | 5 minutes |
__Secure-aurenote.dont_remember | Remembers that you did not choose 'Keep me signed in' | Until you close the browser |
__Secure-aurenote.two_factor | Holds the first sign-in step until you have entered the code for the second factor | 10 minutes |
__Secure-aurenote.state | CSRF protection when signing in with Microsoft, Apple or Google | 10 minutes |
NEXT_LOCALE | Remember selected language | Until you close the browser; 1 year if you choose the language yourself |
aurenote_aufgaben_sortierung | Remembers whether the Tasks tab is sorted by date or by source | 1 year |
ms_oauth_state | CSRF protection when connecting the Microsoft calendar | 10 minutes |
google_oauth_state | CSRF protection when connecting the Google calendar | 10 minutes |
Storage in the browser (localStorage and IndexedDB)
aurenote keeps some settings and interim states in your browser or in the app. These entries stay on your device.
| Key | Purpose |
|---|---|
aurenote.sidebar.collapsed | Remembers whether the sidebar is collapsed or expanded |
aurenote.lastOpened | The last entry you opened (ID, title, time), so that the library can take you back to it |
aurenote.tourGesehen.v1 | Remembers that the guided tour has already run on this device |
aurenote.pushToken | App only: this device's push token, so that it can be deleted when you sign out |
aurenote.pushDisabled | App only: remembers that you turned notifications off on this device |
aurenote.gliederung.v1 | Which sections of a note or meeting you have already seen on this device, so new ones can be marked; checksums only, no text, at most 300 entries |
aurenote.gliederung.leiste | Whether the outline is shown next to the text |
aurenote.gliederung.reihenfolge | For which notes you chose «Newest first» |
aurenote-aufnahmen | IndexedDB: saves a running recording second by second so that it survives a crash. Once it is stopped but not yet uploaded, it stays until it is uploaded or discarded. A recording that was never finished is deleted after 7 days the next time you open aurenote. |

We currently do not use analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel. If in the future we collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g. via PostHog EU), we will inform you beforehand and obtain your consent where legally required.

If you sign in with Microsoft, Apple or Google or connect your Google or Microsoft calendar, those providers also set cookies on their own pages.
